St. Georges Residence

This full home renovation transformed an 80-year-old residence into a timeless yet modern sanctuary that balances luxury, functionality, and architectural integrity. The project encompassed the entire main and upper floors, reconfiguring each space to meet the needs of a young professional couple preparing to grow their family. The design vision embraced a transitional yet modern aesthetic, creating a home that feels classic and current, with bold, dramatic elements that leave a lasting impression.

Working within the structure of an older home required careful coordination between designer and contractor. Outdated layouts, limited ceiling heights, and aging systems all demanded innovative solutions. The structure was solid but required complete mechanical, electrical, and plumbing redesigns. Space planning became the foundation of the project, with numerous layout options explored before finalizing the plan. The main floor was reconfigured to expand the kitchen footprint, relocate the powder room, and introduce a new mudroom and laundry area — a much-needed functional zone for a growing family. The mudroom and laundry were designed to be bright, organized, and highly practical, featuring direct access from the detached garage, a thoughtful detail that enhances everyday convenience and livability.

The staircase was opened up on all levels, introducing light and a sense of connection throughout the home. Framing was adjusted to accommodate full-height doors, visually lifting the ceilings, while all windows and exterior doors were replaced for improved light and efficiency. Custom cabinetry was used throughout, and high-end, durable finishes were selected to stand up to busy family life without compromising sophistication.

The finished home is both impactful and deeply personal. The open-concept kitchen and dining area now serve as the heart of the home, featuring integrated and concealed appliances, a coffee tower, and an expansive island perfect for entertaining. Granite and Dekton countertops add a refined yet durable surface. The living room’s large windows and new gas fireplace with a custom limestone plaster surround create a striking focal point. A dramatic powder room with statement wallpaper brings personality and flair. Upstairs, the expansive primary suite offers a dual walk-in shower, deep soaking tub, private toilet room, and large custom walk-in closet filled with natural light. A dark and moody office with dual workspaces completes the upper floor.

This renovation stands out for its harmonious blend of luxury and functionality. Every decision was intentional, every space reimagined to elevate daily living. It is a transformation that exemplifies excellence in design, craftsmanship, and enduring style within its category.
